Queensland’s most relaxing destinations

Unwind and indulge in the Sunshine State.

If the first half of 2020 has you wanting to hit the refresh button, it might be time for a holiday where the hardest decision is, beach or pool?

Nothing says relaxation quite like the pristine white beaches, crystal-clear water and gently swaying palm trees of Queensland, and with the Sunshine State’s borders reopening on Friday, there’s never been a better time to go.

Whether you want to get back to nature, enjoy some pampering or relive your childhood at theme parks, Queensland offers a diverse range of holiday experiences with something to suit everyone. Here are some of our favourites.

Port Douglas

Only an hour’s drive north of Cairns, Port Douglas is a relaxed seaside town where the rainforest meets the reef. Perfect for couples, families and solo travellers alike, there are a range of accommodation options from lavish resorts to serviced apartments.

The serene and stylish Paradise Links Resort offers apartments and villas set in lush tropical surrounds with a lagoon-style swimming pool, tennis courts, bike hire and a neighbouring golf course.

Port Douglas takes relaxation very seriously and you’ll find a myriad of ways to shed the stresses of everyday life. Enjoy a rejuvenating spa treatment, unwind with yoga on the famous Four Mile Beach or sip on a sundowner cocktail at one of the buzzing bars or restaurants.

If you feel like venturing a bit further, visit Mossman Gorge – a 56,000-hectare area set within the spectacular World Heritage-listed Daintree National Park. Or explore more of the breathtaking Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation on a guided day tour or 4WD safari.

Noosa

Renowned as a wellness destination, visitors to Noosa will find award-winning day spas, health-centric cafes and yoga and Pilates classes to help restore life’s balance.

Noosa is also a paradise for foodies, with plenty of great spots to eat at and drink in the bustling hub of Hastings St and Laguna Beach. The region’s burgeoning craft beer and distillery scene won’t leave you thirsty either.

If time permits, why not visit local farm gates, chocolate factories and coffee roasters as well?

Nestled in the tranquil Noosa National Park, Peppers Noosa Resort & Villas offers spacious and stylish accommodation plus everything you need for a relaxing stay including an on-site spa.

If you’re looking to soak up some scenery, why not venture into the unspoilt rainforest and charming villages of the nearby Hinterland or go kayaking in the Noosa Everglades?

The Whitsundays

Right in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, a trip to the picturesque Whitsundays is what dreams are made of. From luxury resorts to glamping, you’ll find a perfect place to stay on the islands scattered through this idyllic location.

The largest of the Whitsunday Island resorts, Hamilton Island caters to guests seeking beach-front accommodation, family-friendly apartments or holiday homes. Whether you feel like a spot of sailing, a round of golf or a cocktail at one of the island’s bars, you’ll be able to find a way to unwind.

If you’re seeking a secluded piece of paradise, look no further than the InterContinental Hayman Island Resort, surrounded by grassy cliffs and crescent-shaped white beaches. Enjoy privacy and pampering, with exceptional dining and personalised spa treatments just outside your door.

Prefer a nature retreat? Then head to Lady Elliott Island where you can spend your day swimming, snorkelling or diving in crystal waters, home to turtles and manta rays, before retiring to your glamping tent at the island’s family-run eco resort.

Wherever you stay, a trip to the Whitsundays isn’t complete without seeing the world-famous Whitehaven Beach, which stretches 7 kilometres along Whitsunday Island. Visit by boat or take in a bird’s eye view from a scenic flight and be awed by the beach’s unrivalled natural beauty.
