Fun things to do in the winter school holidays

Don’t let the gloomy weather get you down. Get out and about with the family these school holidays.

Grey skies don’t have to mean boring school holidays. There are plenty of ways to keep your family occupied over winter. Here are just a few we love – and the ways you can save on them with your RAA card.

1. Bounce up a storm

Let the kids wear themselves out with a morning or afternoon full of trampolining at BOUNCE. To be honest though, this one’s just as fun for the big kids among us.

The kids will bounce off the walls these holidays.

2. Head to the movies

The school holidays are prime movie-watching time and this winter there are plenty of options for the whole family – Hotel Transylvania 3, Maya the Bee and The Incredibles 2, just to name a few.

Go to the cinemas.

3. Go to the footy

Get the whole family together for a day out at Adelaide Oval. See the Power take on St Kilda on Saturday, 7 July, or cheer them on as they go head-to-head with GWS Giants on Sunday, 22 July.

4. Take a glimpse behind the scenes at Adelaide Oval

Seen your share of footy from the grandstand and fancy taking a peek behind the scenes? Tour restricted areas – like the inside of the iconic scoreboard and the players’ change rooms – and discover amazing sporting stories of years gone by.

5. Take to the skies

Did you know that a crisp, calm winter’s morning can actually be the best time to go hot air ballooning? It’s true! And it makes an unforgettable school holiday experience for the whole family.

Go on a hot air balloon ride.

6. Have an animal encounter

Adelaide Zoo is a perpetually popular school holiday destination, so why not add on a visit to its sister zoo, Monarto? At Monarto you can stay dry by hopping on the Zu-loop bus and playing the ultimate game of eye-spy across all 1500 hectares.

7. Hit the bowling alley

It might seem retro to you, but ten-pin bowling never gets old in the eyes of the kids. Neither does the discovery that any light-coloured clothes glow in the dark under bowling alley lights. See who can rack up the most strikes and spares to be crowned the family bowling champion.

Bowl over boredom.

8. Theme park fun

If you’re headed further afield in search of some sunshine, you can still use your RAA card to save on theme park passes. Take on as many rollercoasters and waterslides as you can handle with savings on big-name parks like Movie World, Sea World, WetnWild and more.

Go to the theme parks.
