Driving overseas?

Get this before hitting the road.

If you’re planning to hire a car on an overseas holiday, you’ll need to get an International Drivers Permit (IDP).

These allow motorists to drive overseas without having to complete an extra set of tests and applications, and RAA is the only organisation in SA authorised to issue them.

To get one, just take a copy of your current Australian driver’s licence and a passport-sized photo of yourself to an RAA Shop where you’ll fill out a simple form.

IDPs cost $39, are valid for 12 months and must be accompanied by a copy of your Australian licence.

While an IDP is proof that you hold a valid licence in your home country, you should also familiarise yourself with the road rules of the country you’re visiting.
