It’s hard to resist rugging up on the couch at this time of year, but South Australia is just as vibrant and lively in winter. To prove our point, here are 5 events worth braving the cold for.
1. Disney on Ice celebrates Mickey and Friends
When: 7–10 June
Where: Adelaide Entertainment Centre
The best adventures are had with friends by your side. That’s why Mickey Mouse and mates Moana, Dory, Donald Duck and other Disney characters are taking to the ice together in Disney on Ice at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. Watch the incredible talents of world-class ice skaters in lavish costumes glide their way along the ice to enchanting music. This year’s production is extra special as it celebrates 90 years since Mickey Mouse was created by Walt Disney.
2. Adelaide Cabaret Festival
When: 7–22 June
Where: Various locations
Dubbed the biggest cabaret festival of its kind in the world, the Adelaide Cabaret Festival lures performers from around the globe to South Australia for a mix of classic and contemporary shows. From former Eurovision and The X Factor contestant Dami Im to comedian Zoë Coombs Marr, a range of talented performers take to the stage again at this year’s festival. Check out what Adelaide Cabaret Festival Artistic Director Julia Zemiro had to say when we sat down for a chat about the 2019 program.
3. Indoor Pink Plant Party
When: 15–16 June
Where: Queen’s Theatre, Adelaide
You don’t need to be a green thumb to attend this garden party. Instead, think pink at the Indoor Pink Plant Party. Chat to the on-site horticulturist about growing the perfect plant before browsing thousands of indoor varieties in all shades of pink. Best of all, wear something pink and you can get $5 off your purchase.

4. Hot 100 Wines Reds Tasting
When: 15 June
Where: Unley, Parkside
With so many delicious drops produced right here in South Australia, finding the most drinkable wine in the state is a tricky task – but someone has to do it. Throughout the year the Hot 100 hosts wine tasting events around South Australia and internationally, with the first held at The Unley this month. We can think of worse ways to spend a Saturday afternoon than nibbling local produce with a red in-hand.
5. Stadium Stomp
When: 16 June
Where: Adelaide Oval
Looking for a way to increase the number of steps on your Fitbit? There’s still time to enter the ultimate stair climbing challenge, which returns to Adelaide Oval this year. Take your pick from the 6000-step course or the 1000-step challenge to raise money for a charity of your choice. Your sore calves in the days following will be worth it.
