It’s that time of year when the weather’s starting to get cooler and the days are shorter, but don’t let that stop you from getting out. Here are 5 events worth braving the cold for.
1. UniSA Australian HPV Super Series 2019
When: 5 May
Hold onto your seat – the UniSA Australian HPV Super Series returns for another year. Best known as pedal prix, watch drivers of all ages (from year 6 students to adults) race through the Riverland over a 6 hour period, riding in single seat trikes which can reach up to 60km/h. Stay for the trophy ceremony to see the winners receive their awards.
2. Disney’s Aladdin the Musical
When: 6 April–9 June
Where: Adelaide Festival Centre
Disney’s spectacular musical Aladdin, which is brought to life on stage at the Adelaide Festival Centre, follows the tale of a poor young man who is granted 3 wishes by a genie in a lamp – one of which he uses to woo a princess. 3. Showdown: Port Adelaide V Adelaide Crows
When: 11 May
Where: Adelaide Oval
Have you got the pride of South Australia in you? Do you have the power to win? No matter which team you barrack for, Round 8 will shine the spotlight on South Australia when Port Adelaide and the Adelaide Crows take to Adelaide Oval for the Showdown. Have you got your ticket yet?
4. Hahndorf Band Festival
When: 11 May
Where: Hahndorf Pioneer Memorial Gardens
Bands from around South Australia take to the stage for the Hahndorf Band Festival, aiming to woo the audience and judges. Head to the Adelaide Hills’ town of Hahndorf to listen to some of the state’s best community bands belt out tunes in 30-minute sets. While you’re there, browse the market stalls and feast on local delights from food trucks scattered throughout the garden.
5. Mother’s Day
When: 12 May
Where: Across SA
Whether you wine and dine her at one of South Australia’s spectacular wineries or buy her a fresh bouquet of flowers, spoiling mum is the agenda on 12 May. Haven’t got a gift yet?
