5 events to mark on your calendar

What's on in SA from 1–15 March.

There's no denying March is mad, but here are 5 events that'll take you away from the mayhem and straight to some picturesque parts of the state.

1. Taste of Beerenberg Experience

When: 2 March

Where: Hahndorf, Adelaide Hills

From a roadside stall in the 1970s to SA’s best-known strawberry farm, Hahndorf’s Beerenberg Farm is an Adelaide Hills icon. Venture to a private area of the property to meet some of the Beerenberg family and graze on local produce before wandering the fields to handpick a big punnet of strawberries. The sweet taste on your palate will last the entire drive home and then some.

2. Day Dance 2019

When: 2 March

Where: Simon Hackett Wines, McLaren Vale

Who needs a dance floor to bust out a move? Held among the vines at Simon Hackett Wines in McLaren Vale, Day Dance is the ultimate outdoor dance party. Pack your own nibbles or grab a bite from a mouth-watering range of food vans scattered across the vineyard. After refuelling, sip on cider, beer or wine as DJs play party tunes until sunset.

3. Dry Lakes Racers 29th Annual Speed Week

When: 4–8 March

Where: Lake Gairdner, north of the Eyre Peninsula

This iconic race zooms by so fast that if you blink you might miss it. Watch cars, motorbikes and trucks reach up to 300km/h during Speed Week as they compete along Lake Gairdner – the 3rd largest salt lake in Australia when in flood. Each year, supercharged vehicles race the flat, salty surface in a blur of metal, as dare-devil drivers vow for world records.

Heading out to Speedweek Australia. One my favourite events of the year. There's no trophies or big prizes for the racers. Landspeed racing is done for the love of the sport. Purely for personal and emotional satisfaction. #dlra #landspeed

4. Stansbury Seaside Markets

When: 9, 16 & 23 March

Where: Stansbury, Yorke Peninsula

Every Saturday morning in March, you can meander through an array of colourful stalls among the magnificent Moreton Bay Fig trees that line the Stansbury foreshore. Check out the homemade jams or jewellery, or down some fresh oysters as you browse from stall-to-stall. While you’re there, pick up some plants or a bottle of wine to crack open back home.

Now that’s an experience you can’t have at your local shopping centre.
