August is jam-packed with action. From watching fast cars zip around a racetrack to lighting up a whole town with lanterns, here's how we're rounding out winter.

1. Melrose Trail Festival

When: 18 August

Where: Southern Flinders Ranges

Get your runners on for the Melrose Trail Festival. Hit the 14km King of the Mount or the 42km Sea to Summit tracks through Mt Remarkable National Park. While you’ll have to get ready for lots of climbing and downhill running, the gruelling workout is worth every kilometre when you have the stunning Flinders Ranges as your backdrop.

Watch the Adelaide Hills light up during the Hahndorf Winter Lantern Festival, where more than 200 lanterns will illuminate the night and be paraded down the street. Don’t miss the festival’s opening night where local musicians will perform to kick off the festivities. You can get amongst the action by making your own lantern with help from local artists who host workshops every Saturday in the lead up the festival.
