We know your diary is probably filling up with festive celebrations now that December is here, but we've got 5 more events you should add to your calendar before the year ends.
Santa’s Wonderland
When: 7–24 December
Where: Adelaide Showgrounds
Santa’s Wonderland is the closest you’ll get to the North Pole without having to leave SA. The little ones will have fun tobogganing their way down slides, ice-skating, gorging on gingerbread and, of course, seeing the big man in red before he heads on his trip around the world. Check out our Santa’s Wonderland activity trail here for more fun things to see and do. Plus, save more than 10% on tickets just for being an RAA member.
Moonlight Cinemas
When: 8 December–17 February
Where: Botanic Park
Summer holidays call for outdoor adventures and movies, so why not combine the two? Pack a rug and picnic basket and head to Botanic Park to watch a blockbuster on the big screen with lush trees as the stunning backdrop to this unique cinema experience. Best of all, RAA members get Moonlight Cinema eVouchers for just $15.
Lights of Lobethal
When: 9 December
Where: Main St, Lobethal
No event calendar would be complete without the stunning light displays in the quaint Adelaide Hills town of Lobethal. Known as one of the largest community Christmas light displays in the southern hemisphere, Lights of Lobethal has illuminated the town for more than 60 years. There’s more to see than dazzling displays though – make sure you park the car and check out the street stalls and annual Christmas pageant.
Semaphore Summer Carnival
When: 15 December–28 January 2019
Where: Corner of Esplanade and Semaphore Rd
We know where we’ll be spending most of our summer. Semaphore Summer Carnival lights up the north-west of Adelaide with adrenaline-fulled amusement rides, sideshow games and, of course, food. For those ringing in the New Year beachside, don’t miss the colourful night sky during the carnival’s stunning fireworks display at 9.30pm and again at midnight.
Carols at Civic Park
When: 16 December
Where: North East Rd, Modbury
In case you haven’t heard enough Deck the Halls, head to Modbury’s Civic Park and sing along to Christmas carols at this family-friendly event. Organisers have promised it’ll bigger and better than last year, if that’s even possible! About 40,000 carollers attended last year, so don’t miss out – there’ll be a fun zone for the little ones, food and, of course, traditional tunes to get even the biggest grinch into the festive spirit.
